I consider the two strongly linked however, with "Letter" laying the foundation for what would come later with "Dream." In any case, I agree with you; "Letter" is a seminal writing.

Here are links to both "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and the "Statement from Alabama Clergymen," which prompted it, for anyone looking to learn more.PBIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05643553811799195520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29223331.post-86529371536869998672007-01-15T22:49:00.000-06:002007-01-15T22:49:00.000-06:00While the I have a Dream Speech is his most famous...While the I have a Dream Speech is his most famous, I think that Letter From a Birmingham Jail is my favorite writing of his. Written in the margins of a newspaper, and on scraps of paper as he sat in jail for his demonstrations in that town, it is written without the benefit of anything other than his own mind and the need to express the justification of his actions. The letter goes a long way in showing what kind of man he was. That he was driven to help his fellow man regardless of the cost, and that his purposes was true and without an agenda to benefit him in any other way than to give civil rights and liberties to people that he loved and who were deserving of those rights and liberties.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11185669531244902662noreply@blogger.com
